Introducing Rashmi, owner of the Confident Speakers Academy. An experienced public speaker (who’s even spoken for TEDx), Rashmi’s attention is on her passion for coaching fellow non-native English speakers and helping them gain confidence.
What’s your name?
Rashmi Watel.
What’s the name of your business?
Confident Speakers Academy.
How would you sum up what your business does?
My business has three areas.
Firstly, I help non-native English speakers build their confidence with my online programs, workshops and webinars. Secondly, I am a public speaker myself and I give talks, facilitate panel discussions , do MCing on topics such as resilience, leadership in women and culture and diversity. Lastly, I run classes for children aged 7-12 to help them improve their public speaking skills.
What inspired you to start your business?
I was inspired by my circumstances and my inability to find a job that suits my educational qualifications and experience. My younger daughter’s health issues also added to the mix. Both of these circumstances inspired me to find my passion and work for myself.
What’s one important idea from your industry that people should know about?
Public speaking is a life skill. You don’t need to be a public speaker to be good at public speaking! You need to invest in this skill. Don’t sweat – introverts can learn public speaking too!
What’s something you have learnt from being a business owner?
Cut yourself some slack and don’t be too hard on yourself! (Being a business owner) is a journey and you are going at exactly the pace you should be going!
