Staff Highlight: Rachel Burt

Welcome to another instalment of our Staff Highlight series. This time we caught up with Rachel Burt, one of our Digital Solutions Customer Support Officers about her role, her journey and what it’s like being part of the Business Station team.

What’s your role at Business Station?

I’m a Customer Support Officer at Business Station. I work within the Digital Solutions team and I’m responsible for communicating with clients and advisors, scheduling appointments and more. I have been with Business Station for nearly 4 years.

What led you to this?

I have always had an interest business. In 2015 I became a qualified beauty therapist and one of my goals was to have my own business in the beauty industry. I then went on to work in salons to gain experience, then moved over to the retail side of beauty where I worked at David Jones for two and a half years. I’m very grateful to have landed a job at Business Station where I’m able to learn more about small business.

What’s your favourite part of your role at Business Station?

I would have to say my favourite part about my role is speaking with different clients every day, hearing their successes within their businesses and how the Digital Solutions program has helped them.

What’s a key skill of yours in this role?

I would say communication and attention to detail.

What do you like about working with your team?

I love being a part of the Digital Solutions team. Everyone is always willing to help one another. We all get along really well, and they are a fun bunch of people to work with.

Career highlights?

I helped organise and attended the first Women in Small Business Lunch and Learn events Business Station held in 2021. It was inspiring and motivating to hear their stories and how they have succeeded in their own businesses.

Biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome professionally?

I think one of the biggest challenges I’ve had to overcome recently is moving to the Pilbara, which is 16 hours away from Perth and navigating working from home full time which can be overwhelming sometimes.

What are you looking to achieve in the next 6 months?

I’m currently doing my certificate in Work Health and Safety, so I’d like to complete that.

A combined goal between my partner and I, we are currently saving up so we can go travelling next year and we are also working towards paying off our debts!

What are your passions/hobbies outside of work?

I have 2 huskies, so they keep me busy going on daily walks and adventures. Before moving to the Pilbara, we were involved with the WA Sled Dog Sports Association in Perth which was a fun activity to do with the dogs. I’m a qualified nail technician so I enjoy doing my own nails when I get the chance. I also enjoy going to the gym and staying active.

Stay tuned for the next staff highlight to learn more about the talented people who make up our team!
